Installing ParrotOS on Unallocated Partition

I am preparing to install Parrot on my system and have an unallocated partition. Should I format the area prior to installation?

You dont need to format the area prior the installation. The partitioner will format it and also change the filesystem.

So I can just pop in the USB drive, and it will bring up the unallocated area for installation?

Yes, you must select the unallocated partition and there should be an option called automatically partitionate. You could choose this if you only want to use the unused partition. Here is the doc for the debian installer. The section 6.3.4.3. Manual Partitioning is want you want if you dont want to use the whole disk.
