Simple-scan can't connect with scanner

Briefly describe your issue below:
New install of Parrot, new user of Parrot but 2 years Linux experience. Have successfully installed Brother Printer drivers and printed. Installed scanner driver, provided by Brother. Installed simple-scan. When I run program, I am informed “ready to scan on Brother MFC-9340CDW” but when I hit the scan button the following error is returned: “Failed to connect to scanner.” Cables are connected via USB and like I said I can print so I don’t think it’s a hardware problem. For the record, I’ve successfully installed the scanner drivers on Mint, MX-Linux, and Debian.

Running Parrot ver. 4.5, fully updated

Installed using Debian Standard

No multiboot, stand alone system
