So Where Has KDE Gone?

Last week all sorts of things not working, Konsole not found and now much to my dismay KDE has been replaced by MATE. Its not that I dont like MATE, i cannot stand it , hence my use of KDE. Is it gone forever ? or can I get it back, like immediatly. Could somebody supply a reason?
If I try and reinstall KDE will it work properly?

This is what my system settings show but in actuality i am stuck with the hateful MATE 1.24
