Unable to Reinstall Firefox After the Official Update

Im unable to use firefox browser to this version firefox/rolling 92.0-1 amd64
since i did parrot-upgrade

I tried reinstalling browser but its not letting me install.

As firefox being my default browser i need it reinstalled please help

  • ParrotOS iso in use:
    PRETTY_NAME=“Parrot OS 5.0 (LTS)”
    NAME=“Parrot OS”
    VERSION=“5.0 (LTS)”

  • Application used for flashing the iso:

  • Logs/Terminal output (use pastebin or similar services):
    The following packages have unmet dependencies:
    firefox : Depends: libc6 (>= 2.32) but 2.31-13+deb11u2 is to be installed
    Depends: libffi8 (>= 3.4) but it is not installable
    Depends: libvpx6 (>= 1.10.0) but 1.9.0-1 is to be installed
    E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

I have the same issue, I think, the problem goes from the mirrors themself since last week which install the version of test 5.0. I hope parrot devs will correct this issue, or add the missing packages to the pool.


You can install firefox-esr instead. AFAIK all plugins and other things should work. Palinuro is working on rust dependencies for firefox.


dmknght is correct. It has been my work around and the only issue I have is all my bookmarks and personal configurations went out the door with the firefox when I wasn’t looking

Firefox cloud sync is always good. As i remember firefox esr and firefox has different locations for data. and have both on system will create conflict of data.

Yeah, this issue occurs when done the following steps.

  1. Update the parrot OS.
  2. Remove or uninstall firefox.
  3. Re-install firefox.
  4. You get the above mentioned issue.

Additionally the entire OS also freezes with high fan speed. Have to shutdown the laptop everytime it occurs.
