won't boot- grub error after upgrading

Briefly describe your issue below:
downloaded the Parrot Security 4.6 VM to run in Virtualbox
changed the apt mirror to a specific site since one of the sites on the reflector was failing.

ran “parrot-upgrade” and all seemed to go well.

rebooted
stuck at grub:

error: symbol grub_file_filters not found.
entering rescue mode …
grub rescue>

What version of Parrot are you running? (include version (e.g. 4.6), edition(e.g. Home//KDE/OVA, etc.), and architecture (currently we only support amd64)

What method did you use to install Parrot? (Debian Standard / Debian GTK / parrot-experimental)

I was able to repair the install by booting a live cd and reinstalling grub.

Also, I started with a fresh copy of the VM and updated again and everything works fine so it may just be one of the updates fixed something in the meantime.
