X1 Carbon ThinkPad Gen 4 Parrot 4.9 Wont Shutdown

Hello everybody,

I’m currently running Parrot OS Security Edition version 4.9, When i attempt to shutdown the system the computer hangs on the Parrot OS Splash Screen.

Does anyone know how to solve this issue ?

UPDATE

I’ve since upgraded the system to Parrot OS Security Edition version 4.10 running on a Lenovo thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 4, Same problem.

What happens when you issue: sudo shutdown -h now

Do you see any information? Try checking the journal:

sudo journalctl | tail -100

For last 100 lines.

I think these are the relevant journal notes, It’s not that the system doesn’t allow the shutdown command, What happens is after issuing the shutdown command the OS freezes on the Parrot OS Splash Screen.

Tried also with acpi disabled, Still didn’t shutdown correctly.

Do you know how to fix this problem?

That is a list of things being shutdown as happens anytime you shutdown.

It could be Nvidia issue. Never had Nvidia but a quick search shows a user switching drivers from noveau to Nvidia helped someone who had similar issue. I don’t have anymore information on it for you outside that posting: Linux mint 18 hangs at shutdown - Unix & Linux Stack Exchange

Try searching for it (doesn’t need to include Parrot as this is likely a universal problem and will only narrow down results) with “Solved” on duckduckgo.

I don’t have an Nvidia chip.

Something is causing the system to hang. It would be worth finding what that is in the logs. We need more information to take this further.

You should see more directly related information by shutting down without the splash screen. See this posting for more information: freeze - How do I diagnose Hang on Shutdown? - Ask Ubuntu
