Installation of Pycharm

Hello guys,

Was wondering how I would go about installing Pycharm Community Edition. I have been using Parrot for a while now and want to make the full switch from using Ubuntu.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Installation of Pycharm

Pycharm is not available in Debian/Parrot repository, i guess you have to download it from the official website https://www.jetbrains.com/pycharm/downl … tion=linux

There's Atom pre-installed on Parrot though, maybe it will do fine ?

Re: Installation of Pycharm

I believe I attempted using it that way however it would never open up. I will surely look at Atom and give it a go!

Thanks for your help no0b!

Re: Installation of Pycharm

I tried Pycharm and made it run on Parrot 3.10.1 .

I downloaded it, extracted and ran in "bin" './pycharm.sh' . If Atom is enough for you that's nice, just wanted to tell you that Pycharm works and you can import your settings easily if you're used to it.

Re: Installation of Pycharm

Hi guys, I have two questions;

1- How do you make a shortcut for launching PyCharm ? As of now, I have to go to the corresponding folder and type './pycharm.sh' to launch the application.

2- Speaking of Atom, my Atom editor looks "blurry". Some of the text from the menus and from the files I create gets overlayered and thus making it hard to read. Same story with VS Code that I downloaded. How can this be fixed ?

Re: Installation of Pycharm

@nooblet, I'll give you two ways to add shortcut, one for the application menu and one for launching from the terminal (which is not really good since the terminal will stay up until you close pycharm).

Right click on "Applications" on your top bar, => "Edit Menus" then click on the "Programming" category, on the right side click on "New Item" and go search your 'pycharm.sh' and now you can launch it from you app menu in the programming category.

Now to launch it from terminal, edit your '.bashrc' that is located in your "$HOME", and add the line (the location is an exemple) "alias pycharm=/Programming/Pycharm/pycharm.sh"  then launch in your terminal "source ~/.bashrc" and you can launch it from anywhere by typing pycharm.

As for the problem you noticed on Atom, i have that too, the alt menu has cut off lines, and letters are blurry, anything else works great, but i can't tell if it's Parrot having that issue or Atom.
