Format portable storage / how to move folders

– Please help with CL in formatting WD Seagate 2TB drive –

How come you can’t grab the documents folder and move it on to the drive with ALL the document files. You can move the documents folder by hand but it only moves the folders and not the document files.

What is the fastest way to back up documents folder and downloads folder, pictures, etc on to a portable drive?

Hi. You can use cp to copy all those files wherever you want. If you want to move them, mv.
