I tried changing the keyboard layout by typing : dpkg-reconfigure console-data as mentioned in this post.
but it says that console data is not installed and that this dpkg query is not available.
what do i do?

Changing the system language and keyboard layout

Some of you might want to change the system language after setting up another language before during installation process. Here’s the simple answer: For changing the default language type this in the Terminal: dpkg-reconfigure locales For changing the Keyboard-Layout type this: dpkg-reconfigure console-data
