Sound issue snd_hda_intel with 4.9 (not with 4.8)

Hello,
I’m relativly new to linux and here to parrot. I’m getting around quite OK, but i’m running into an annoying issue; My sound doesn’t work. It shows ‘Dummy output’. It doesn’t work with the internal speaker nor the headphones. I want to explore parrot more, but i really need the sound.

I really appreciate the help.

What version of Parrot are you running? (type “cat /etc/os-release” in terminal without the quotes)

Parrot Sec Mate
cat /etc/os-release: Parrot GNU/LINUX 4.9
uname -r: 5.5.0-1parrot1-amd64

What hardware are you running? (Machine Model/Brand, graphics card if display issue)
HP ZBook 15u g6

What method did you use to install Parrot? (Debian Standard / Debian GTK / parrot-experimental)
Using live USB wtih debian gtk

Configured to multiboot with other systems? (yes / no)
Yes, multiboot windows 10

What have you already tried to fix your problem? Be detailed.

Tried multiple live usb versions.
kernal 5.5.0.1/parrot sec mate 4.9 works not (currently installed)
Kernel 5.5.0.1/parrot sec mate 4.9 works not (live)
Kernel 5.4.0.4parro1-amd64/parrot sec mate 4.8 works (live)
Kernel 5.2 works (live)

Ran pacmd list-cards on the 4.8 version, it’s showed at the end of this post.

Ran these commands in terminal on the installed parrot 4.9:
pacmd list-cards: 0 card(s) available.

alsa force-reload:
bash: alsa: command not found

Bios-> disable audio -> boot to parrot -> reboot -> bios -> enable audio -> boot to parrot. Still Dummy Output, pacmd list-cards shows 0 available.

I tried all steps described on this page:

no results. Reversed all changes.

Checked if the parrot user is having the ‘Use audio devices’ -> it’s on.

Upgrade your System
Download and install the latest kernal 5.6.0-2parrot1-amd64

Additional Kernel Boot Parameter
first go to /etc/default/grub then add snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0 to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= after quiet splash then save it and run sudo update-grub then reboot the system and check if it is working or not ,if it works keep it else you can remove this.

it should look something like this:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=“quiet splash snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0"
*however it may vary if there are any additional commands

Thank you for your reply. I’ve upgraded to 5.6.0-2parrot1-amd64 like you suggested. This didn’t solve the problem.

After altering the GRUB (with snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0), this did solve the problem.

Any idea why this solved the issue and why the issue popped up at the first place? Or is this something that should be reported as a bug, since this problem raised since 4.9, and wasn’t there since 4.8 or earlier?

this happens due to Hardware Incompatibility (only happens on few pc’s)

yeah ,this is a Bug since Linux Kernel v5.2 ,but as this is not a major scale problem thus its ignored.
