Tor being super finicky

Problems with Tor,

  • Tor browser not launching in super user and other account
    -I was having tor + anonsurf problems for a month or so but it somehow worked itself out after updating one day
    -I can see onion circuits on super user account but not on other account, it says not connecting to tor
    -Not sure anonsurf is working correctly when
    -What are the defualt socks 4 & socks 5 ports for Tor?
    -I’m reading alot of misinformation on the internet + ignorance on my behalf, which I think lead to these problems.
  • From what I understand when using anonsurf your dns records are pointed to parrots dns when I’m not usng anonsurf, my dns records are pointing to my ISP? So when prepending my DNS records + changing them back to 12.0.0.1 before starting anonsurf? I had been changing them to two OPENNIC servers.

anonsurf start

[ i ] Starting anonymous mode:

  • Tor is not running! starting it for you

  • Stopping service nscd (already stopped)

  • Stopping service resolvconf

  • Stopping service dnsmasq

  • Saved iptables rules

  • Modified resolv.conf to use Tor and ParrotDNS

net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1

  • All traffic was redirected throught Tor

[ i ] You are under AnonSurf tunnel

[

[ i ] Stopping anonymous mode:

  • Deleted all iptables rules

  • Iptables rules restored

  • Restore DNS servicenet.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 0
    net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 0
    tor: no process found – Shouldn’t this message be Tor process found stopping it??
    \ * Restarting services
    Failed to start nscd.service: Unit nscd.service not found.

  • It is safe to not worry for dnsmasq and nscd start errors if they are not installed or started already.

  • Anonymous mode stopped

I had the same problem,I solved it by downloading tor from tor.org saved to downloads ran the install from downloads, then moved the tor dir to root and works fine now

or simply uninstall firejail & life will be easier…
